Institute for Math & AI, Wuhan (IMAI) was established in June 2023 as an independent research institute within Wuhan University. IMAI is led by Professor Pingwen Zhang (Director), thepresident of Wuhan University and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Weinan E (Chair of the academic committee), Chair Professor of Peking University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. IMAI focuses on foundamental and interdisciplinary research in key areas of mathematics, statistics, computer science, and cybersecurity. It aims to establish a talent hub in central China and an internationally influential academic research center.

IMAI is now recruiting outstanding postdoctoral researchers on a rolling basis.

2. Eligibility Criteria

(1) Excellent ideological and moral qualities, rigorous scientific attitude, dedication to work, and good physical health.

(2) Generally under 35 years old, with a strong academic background.

(3) Ph.D. obtained within three years (as of the application date), or applicants who have met the requirements for Ph.D. at the time of application.

(4) Research plans developed in collaboration with a selected research team or group leader.

(5) Compliance with other relevant postdoctoral management regulations of Wuhan University.


3. Compensation and Benefits

(1) Salary: Annual salary ranges from RMB 180,000 to RMB 300,000 (pre-tax, including university pay, mentor support, and year-end research performance bonuses). Outstanding applicants are encouraged to apply for the university’s “Hongyi Postdoctoral Fellowship” or other funded programs, with salaries subject to relevant regulations. Additional funding is available through national, provincial, and municipal postdoctoral programs.

(2) Research Support: Strong support for applying national research fundings  from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Youth Program and the Postdoctoral Innovative Talent Support Program.

(3) Other Benefits:

4. Application Process

(1) Application Materials:

Applicants should submit the following materials via email:

Cover letter;

Curriculum vitae;

Academic and research achievements, including representative papers, monographs, patents, awards, and details of research projects undertaken. Supporting documents include full-text papers (with acceptance proof for unpublished ones), retrieval certificates, monograph covers, tables of contents, and abstracts, as well as patent or award certificates and project-related documentation.

Identification documents: A valid ID card (passport for foreign applicants); Ph.D. diploma and graduation certificate (for recent graduates, proof of meeting graduation requirements is required; overseas degree holders must provide a certification from the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange).

Three recommendation letters, including one from the Ph.D. supervisor (no restriction on referees for current postdoctoral fellows), signed and directly sent by the referee via email.

(2) Selection Process:

The Wuhan Institute of Mathematics and Intelligence, in conjunction with the affiliated postdoctoral mobile station, will organize an expert panel to conduct interviews (online or offline) for qualified candidates.

(3) Health Examination:

Applicants who pass the interview must undergo a physical examination at a designated hospital. Successful candidates can then proceed with the postdoctoral application process as per the guidelines on Wuhan University’s Human Resources Department website.
