About Professor Tong Yang:

Professor Tong Yang is a disinguished professor at the Wuhan Institute of Mathematics and Intelligence, Wuhan University, and a doctoral supervisor. He obtained his BSc and MSc degrees from Zhongshan University (Sun Yat-sen University) in 1987 and 1990, respectively. He furthered his studies at University of California, Davis where he obtained his PhD in 1993. After working as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton for one year, he joined CityU in 1994 and was promoted to Chair Professor of Mathematics in 2007. Prof Yang was Head of the Department of Mathematics at CityU from 2012 to 2018. He was President of the Hong Kong Mathematical Society from 2016 to 2020, and he now serves as a member-at-large of the Society. Professor Yang joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2022.

Prof Tong Yang has been working in the fields of partial differential equations and kinetic theory. He served as an Editor-in-Chief of Analysis and Applications from 2013 to 2017, and is one of the founding Editors-in-Chief of Kinetic and Related Models launched in 2008. He also serves on several international journals, including the Editorial Advisory Board of London Mathematical Society: Bulletin, Journal, and the SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis. Prof Yang has been actively contributing to the research and scientific development in mainland China. He is an Honorary Professor, Visiting Chair Professor and Guest Professor of several universities in mainland China. Prof Yang was elected to be a member of the European Academy of Sciences and The World Academy of Sciences in 2018 and 2021, respectively, and a Foreign Member of the Academia Europaea in 2022. The awards and distinctions that he has received include the Senior Research Fellow by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong in 2020, the 2nd class State Natural Science Award of China in 2012, the Croucher Senior Research Fellowship in 2011, the Changjiang Chair Professorship by the Ministry of Education of China in 2005, National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2004, and the Morningside Silver Medal of Mathematics in the first ICCM in 1998.

2. Eligibility Requirements

(1) Strong ideological and moral integrity, rigorous scientific attitude, and dedication to academic research, with good health.

(2) Generally under 35 years old, with a solid mathematical foundation and high-quality academic publications.

(3) Ph.D. degree obtained within three years (as of the application date) or having met the requirements for Ph.D. thesis defense at the time of application.

(4) Compliance with the postdoctoral management regulations of Wuhan University.


3. Job Responsibilities

(1) Conduct independent research under the supervision of Professor Tong Yang. Publish academic papers in renowned international journals, and participate in significant academic conferences.

(2) Assist the supervisor in applying for research grants, managing the research team, and organizing academic seminars and discussions. The postdoctoral researchers are also encouraged and supported to apply for research grants independently.


4. Salary and Benefits

(1) Salary: Annual salary ranges from RMB 180,000 to RMB 300,000 (pre-tax, including group contributions). Outstanding candidates will be recommended to apply for theHongyi Postdoctoral Fellowship at Wuhan University or other postdoctoral funding programs. The salary will then follow the university regulations and can be supplemented by national, provincial, and municipal postdoctoral funding programs.

re eligible to apply for associate senior positions. Outstanding candidates who meet the universitys talent recruitment policies and postdoctoral exit requirements are eligible to apply for faculty positions at Wuhan University.
